What can we learn from observing human social behavior, or the natural world?

Quite a lot. Studying the behaviors of humans and other animals allows us to better understand and respond to the world around us.

Human society has evolved in different ways, producing different cultural and social norms, histories and conflicts. Together with social scientists, anthropologists, and geographers, we’re developing tools that rapidly characterize and model socio-cultural behavior. These tools collect, process, and organize socially relevant information, allowing users to understand emerging situations, detect stress points, and identify potential social fault lines.

Likewise, biological systems have evolved over time. Those that endure are successful at physical adaptation and agile in creating new strategies to overcome the changes in their environments. We work with biologists to model animal behavior, including the swarm and colony behaviors of social insects, and apply machine learning to those models to generate tactics for command and control of autonomous systems.
