As a Research Scientist for Boston Fusion, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge of scientific research and software engineering best practices to contribute and drive research efforts in development of autonomous and multi-agent distributed systems.

This role will lead technical teams as a Principal Investigator, contribute to and lead proposal efforts, and collaborate with project teams to solve complex technical problems that support national security.

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor small teams researching, developing, implementing, testing, and transitioning technical solutions in support of Boston Fusion’s projects
  • Lead technical teams to develop innovative concepts and translate them into technical solutions
  • Develop proposals, ideas, and leads to support company business development goals
  • Publish papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences that document company research
  • Provide career mentorship to junior technical staff
  • Leverage professional network to identify potential collaborators for future research projects
  • Advise other company efforts in areas of technical expertise
  • Coordinate with Project Manager to ensure timely and quality execution of project deliverables
  • Develop software to test scientific hypotheses 
  • Occasional travel to attend and present at customer meetings and essential industry conferences

This Job is Right for You if You Have:

  • A Master’s or PhD in computer science, natural science, mathematics, engineering, or related fields and 10 or more years of professional research experience 
  • 5 or more years of professional experience leading technical teams
  • In-depth research experience documented with publications
  • Strong mathematical knowledge, including statistics, linear algebra, and/or graph theory
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work under minimal direction
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external teams of scientists and engineers
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to convey complex, technical concepts to non-experts
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience as a principal investigator on DARPA, IARPA, AFRL, ONR or ARL research projects
  • In-depth knowledge in: (1) autonomous systems (2) deep learning methods for computer vision (3) neurosymbolic AI and/or (4) explainable AI
  • Experience working as a customer point of contact with regular external presentations
  • Experience in a system integration or product management role – ability to prioritize varied stakeholder requirements.
