As a Principal Research Scientist for Boston Fusion, you will have the opportunity to utilize your knowledge of scientific research and software engineering best practices to contribute and drive research efforts in development of systems core to the success of future Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) activities.

This role will lead technical teams as a Principal Investigator, lead and contribute to proposal efforts, and collaborate with project teams to solve complex technical problems that support national security.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Investigate fundamental topics in a scientific field such as signal processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, physics and/or math
  • Lead teams of two or more Scientists, Engineers, and Programmers, including identifying, assigning, and completing research and development tasks appropriate to each member of the team
  • Provide a strategic leadership role in working with a project / proposal team to identify the research approach, hypotheses to be tested, and program milestones to achieve all program objectives
  • Facilitate collaboration in large, complex teams to ensure resulting technology (algorithms, software, frameworks) achieves all research objectives
  • Select, improve, or design computational models
  • Identify relevant research approaches, hypotheses to be tested, and program milestones to achieve all program objectives with project and/or proposal teams
  • Provide scientific, technical and software design support to projects and proposals
  • Design statistically valid experiments to test and validate resulting computational models
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the analysis of results of the experiments using sound scientific principles
  • Design experiments to test and validate computational models
  • Establish and maintain a professional rapport with all project stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Additional project and proposal duties as assigned

    Additional Responsibilities
  • Occasional travel to attend and present at customer meetings and essential industry conferences
  • Prepare technical briefing materials/summarize technical work and progress of projects
  • Collaborate with company leadership and senior technical staff to conduct proposal research and proposal writing
  • Publish technical reports based on original or improved algorithms created to solve the application challenges
  • Maintain high standards at work, continuously looking for solutions to improve processes and products
  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen partnerships with others inside and outside the organization to achieve Boston Fusion business goals

This Job is Right for You if you Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or related field, with 15+ years of experience; Master’s degree with 13+ years of experience; PhD with 10+ years of experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Excellent communication, writing and presentation skills
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

    Demonstrates strong competency in every category and a mastery of at least one category
  • Demonstrated competency in radar, signal processing, human-machine systems, computer vision, AI/ML, or other technical discipline
  • Experience implementing modeling and analysis techniques, including machine learning, operations research, optimization, control theory, probabilistic modeling, etc.
  • Understanding of mathematical principles which underlie these modeling methods
  • Experience in implementing algorithms in standard programming languages such as Python, Java, C++
  • Experience in using sound software development techniques, e.g., testing, documentation, source control

    Preferred Technical Qualifications
  • Classical applied probabilistic, mathematical, and/or artificial intelligence methods (planning, searching, logic, uncertain knowledge, probabilistic reasoning, natural language processing)
  • Radar signal processing techniques
  • Machine learning frameworks (e.g., Scikit-learn, Tensorflow, PyTorch, Keras) and concepts (e.g., supervised, unsupervised, active, and reinforcement learning; neural networks; generative, discriminative models)

    Preferred Domain Knowledge
  • 6+ years of experience applying technology to US Department of Defense and/or Intelligence Community problems, including but not limited to the following: intelligence analysis, command and control, logistics, ISR, information operations, missile defense, operations in the cyber, space, or maritime domains
  • 8+ years of experience in a research leadership role
  • Work Authorization/Security Clearance Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship and DoD security clearance (REQUIRED)
